The world map uses a projection that maintains a good proportion between the real surfaces and those represented.
A good way to see this is to look at Greenland, which in reality is one – third the size of Australia (classic Mercator projections often show Greenland larger than Australia). On this projection we see the immensity of equatorial Africa and the Amazon regions and the relative narrowness of Siberia.
